Nawaf Salam begins consultations to form a government by meeting former Prime Ministers Najib Mikati, Fouad Siniora and Tammam Salam.
Newly appointed Prime Minister Nawaf Salam made protocol visits to former Lebanese prime ministers on Tuesday, starting with caretaker PM Najib Mikati.
Following their brief meeting, Mikati remarked, “We discussed current issues, but due to his protocol tour, the meeting was concise. We agreed to reconvene later, and I wish him success in forming the government.” Mikati praised the parliamentary consultations and designation process, highlighting the democratic approach during this critical period.
Salam expressed his gratitude for Mikati’s efforts, particularly in facilitating the recent ceasefire agreement, saying, “We will meet again after the successful formation of the government. Today was an opportunity to thank him for his dedication during these challenging times.”
Former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora also hosted Salam and emphasized the importance of national unity in overcoming Lebanon’s challenges. “This is a difficult phase, but with the dedication of leaders like Prime Minister Salam and President Joseph Aoun, we can emerge stronger from this crisis,” Siniora stated. He underscored the necessity of operating within the framework of the state, noting, “No one wins outside the state’s framework, and everyone wins within it.”
Salam, in turn, lauded Siniora’s optimism and said, “I came to benefit from his extensive experience, and I share his hope for Lebanon’s recovery.”
After meeting with former Prime Minister Tammam Salam, he stated, “The tour of former prime ministers was an opportunity to benefit from their experience. Tomorrow, I will listen to the MPs concerned with granting confidence to the government. Once I have a clear vision, I will share it with the media for public opinion. We are in a new era and I want a swift start.”
