Presidency Announces Parliamentary Consultations to Be Held on Monday

The General Secretariat of the Presidency announced that President Joseph Aoun will hold parliamentary consultations on Monday to appoint the next Prime Minister tasked with forming a new government.

According to a statement issued on Friday, the consultations will begin at Baabda Presidential Palace with a meeting between the President and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, followed by a session with Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab. The morning session will conclude with discussions involving independent MPs.

 

The consultations will resume in the afternoon with members of the various parliamentary blocs, in the following order:

  • The Strong Republic Bloc (Lebanese Forces)

  • Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc (Hezbollah)

  • Strong Lebanon Bloc (Free Patriotic Movement)

  • The Democratic Gathering Bloc (Progressive Socialist Party)

  • The National Moderation Bloc

  • The Independent Consultative Gathering Bloc (Elias Bou Saab, Ibrahim Kanaan, Alain Aoun and Simon Abi Ramia)

  • The Kataeb Party

  • The Independent National Bloc (Marada Movement)

  • National Consensus Bloc (Faisal Karami)

  • The Forces of Change

  • Armenian MPs

  • The Renewal Bloc (Tajadod)

  • Project Watan (Neemat Frem)

  • Al-Jamaa al-Islamiyya

  • The Development and Liberation Bloc (Amal Movement)

As stipulated in Article 53, paragraph 2 of the Lebanese Constitution, the President of the Republic appoints the Prime Minister in consultation with the Parliament Speaker and based on the results of binding parliamentary consultations officially communicated to him.
