The Lebanese Army Command announced on Tuesday that army units have intensified security measures as part of their operational duties in preparation for New Year’s Eve. These measures include exceptional procedures implemented across various Lebanese regions.

“This effort aims to protect areas, tourist sites, and commercial facilities while ensuring the safe movement of citizens,” the statement noted.

The Army Command urged citizens to cooperate with these security measures to help maintain public safety and prevent incidents. It also issued a stern warning against celebratory gunfire, emphasizing the severe risks it poses to citizens' lives and public safety. Violators, the statement added, will face legal prosecution.

The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces (ISF) also issued a statement ahead of New Year’s Eve, cautioning the public against the dangerous practice of celebratory gunfire, which is common during holidays and various events. The ISF warned that such behavior could result in fatalities, serious injuries, and widespread fear among citizens, especially children. Additionally, celebratory gunfire can cause significant damage to properties, vehicles, solar panels, and other assets.

The statement further highlighted the risks posed by gunfire near the airport, where stray bullets frequently land on airport grounds and runways, posing a serious threat to civil aviation safety and endangering the lives of passengers.

The ISF urged citizens to refrain from engaging in this dangerous practice to safeguard public safety and announced that specialized units would actively pursue and apprehend individuals involved in such incidents, in collaboration with the judiciary.

Moreover, the ISF encouraged citizens to assist in combating this issue by reporting any instances of gunfire. Violations can be documented through photos or videos and submitted using the “Report” feature on the Internal Security Forces’ official website. Citizens can also contact local operations rooms by dialing 112.
