The Israeli army on Tuesday opened fire on a joint patrol of the Lebanese army and the Polish unit of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which was attempting to open the highway linking Aitaroun to Bint Jbeil.
The highway had been blocked by Israeli forces last Thursday.
This marked the first time since the ceasefire announcement on November 27 that Lebanese soldiers and peacekeepers positioned themselves side by side in the region, particularly in the aforementioned area.
Further violations of the ceasefire were reported as the Israeli army fired heavy machine guns towards the vicinity of Chaqra, Doubiye Castle, and the valleys surrounding Qabrikha and Majdel Selem.
Additionally, artillery shells landed on the outskirts of Chihine and Jebbayn.
In an unconfirmed development, reports suggest that a convoy of Israeli Merkava tanks withdrew from the Wata el-Khiam area towards regions near the Wazzani River.
These incidents add to growing concerns about the stability of the ceasefire agreement and the ongoing risks of further violence in the region.
A missile on a residential building in Akkar
In the early hours of Tuesday, while Israeli aircraft were flying over the Akkar region and carrying out operations against Syrian territory, a missile fell on one of the buildings located on the outskirts of the locality of Kleiat, in Akkar. The three-story building, which belongs to the Mohammed family, suffered extensive damage, even though the missile did not explode. No casualties were reported.
Following the incident, a Lebanese army patrol and security forces were dispatched to the scene. The arrival of a military expert is also expected. He is expected to inspect the site where the missile fell to remove it safely.
Meanwhile, overnight Monday, explosions echoed across several southern regions as the Israeli military launched heavy bombardments on the village of Khiam, targeting houses and residential buildings.
