The Israeli army announced on Friday that it had conducted an airstrike against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, just two days after the ceasefire with the armed group came into effect.

“A short time ago, terrorist activity and the movement of a mobile rocket launcher were detected in southern Lebanon,” the Israeli army said in a statement, which also included a video posted on X showing the strike on a slow-moving truck.

The Israeli army had also fired on residents of southern Lebanon attending a funeral in a border village, where it remains deployed, two days after the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect.

“The enemy opened fire on citizens in Khiam as they participated in the funeral of one of the village's sons,” reported the National News Agency (NNA), without mentioning any casualties.

An artillery shell hit the village of Khiam, while Israeli artillery also targeted the outskirts of Markaba and Taloussa in the Marjayoun district and Bani Hayan. Additionally, Israeli bulldozers destroyed homes and land in Markaba. An Israeli tank also bombed a house on the outskirts of Bourj al-Malouk in Tal Nahas. Israeli bulldozers were seen uprooting olive trees near the Al-Abara area, by the border wall, in the village of Kfar Kila.

The village of Khiam had witnessed fierce battles between the Israeli army and Hezbollah before the ceasefire took effect on Wednesday.

In addition, the Israeli army announced a new “curfew from 5 PM Friday to 7 AM Saturday” south of the Litani River.

For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of an “intensive war” on Thursday if the ceasefire with Hezbollah was violated.
