Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati denied statements reported by Reuters, which cited a Lebanese political source and a diplomat claiming that US envoy Amos Hochstein had requested Lebanon to declare a unilateral ceasefire with Israel.

On Friday morning, Mikati stated that “the Israeli statements and diplomatic indications received by Lebanon confirm Israel’s intransigence in rejecting proposed solutions and insisting on a path of killing and destruction.”

He emphasized that the responsibility lies with the “international community,” which has “historical and moral obligations to stop this aggression.”

US envoy Amos Hochstein visited Tel Aviv on Thursday in an attempt to de-escalate the war and halt the clashes between Hezbollah and Israel.

However, the visit failed to yield any results, highlighting a setback in US diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Lebanon and ease regional tensions, despite Mikati’s optimism about a potential resolution to the current situation.
