British Prime Minister Keir Starmer underlined the need to “fully implement UN Resolution 1701” and halt fire in Lebanon.

In a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Monday, Starmer praised the positive connection between the Lebanese and British armies and affirmed that “Britain is ready to support Lebanon at this time.”
He also offered condolences for the “loss of civilian victims due to the violence in Lebanon.”

For his part, Mikati thanked Britain for supporting the ceasefire and a diplomatic solution, noting the “deep relationship between both countries.”

Additionally, Mikati met with British Defense Secretary John Healey.

Healey emphasized that “diplomatic efforts are ongoing to stop the war.”
“We are helping the army by developing military technologies in all fields in collaboration with the United States, France, Italy and Germany,” he added.

In this context, Mikati reiterated the priority of an “immediate ceasefire and working to reach a diplomatic solution to fully implement Resolution 1701.”

He urged Britain “to support UNIFIL's efforts,” pointing out “the importance of UNIFIL’s role in maintaining stability in the south.”
