A Palestinian man was killed on Sunday as he tried to attack soldiers with a knife during an “anti-terrorist” operation in Hizma, north of Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank, the Israeli army announced.

The man, whose identity was not given, “accelerated in his car towards soldiers who were carrying out an anti-terrorist operation in the Hizma area," the army said in a statement.

He then “got out of his car with a knife and tried to stab” the soldiers, who “eliminated” him, it added.

The West Bank, a territory occupied by Israel since 1967, has been the scene of an upsurge in violence since the unprecedented Hamas attack on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023.

At least 745 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers, according to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

At least 24 Israelis, including soldiers, perished in Palestinian attacks or military operations, according to official Israeli data.
