French President, Emmanuel Macron, asserted that his efforts and endeavors are continuous, in cooperation with the United States, to reach a ceasefire in Lebanon.
On Wednesday, Macron met caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the Elysees Palace.
The preparations for the “International Conference to Support Lebanon,” which Macron initiated were also discussed at the meeting.
For his part, Mikati said he was deeply grateful for Macron’s permanent and continuous support for Lebanon, praising “all the endeavors and efforts he is making in order to reach a ceasefire and stop the Israeli attacks.”
Mikati also stressed that the best evidence of France’s involvement in Lebanon was this conference.
The priority of the international conference on Lebanon, to be held in Paris on Thursday (tomorrow), will be to respond to the UN's appeal for more than $400 million in aid for displaced persons, the Élysée said on Wednesday.
On October 1, UN agencies launched an appeal for over $400 million in urgent aid for the hundreds of thousands displaced by Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon.
“The priority is to be able to respond to this appeal,” said the Élysée. “We have been working to try to identify as many contributions as possible,” it said, adding that Macron would make an announcement on the aid provided by France.
