Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited Lebanon on Friday and met with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the Grand Serail to discuss the escalating regional crisis.

In a joint press conference, Meloni expressed her country's solidarity with Lebanon and emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon. “We are all working towards a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and there is a need for the full implementation of UN Resolution 1701,” she stated.

Mikati reaffirmed “Lebanon’s commitment to fully implementing all relevant international resolutions, especially Resolution 1701,” and expressed “readiness to strengthen the army's presence in the south.”

Criticizing the Israeli attacks on UNIFIL, Mikati called for a “unified stance against this blatant encroachment on UNIFIL's role and mission in supporting Lebanon and its people.”

Meloni's visit also included meetings with Lebanese officials and military leaders, focusing on the need to strengthen Lebanon's security forces amid the ongoing Israeli attacks.
