As clashes intensified between Hezbollah and Israel in southern Lebanon, Israeli warplanes carried out dozens of violent air raids on Beirut’s southern suburb and the southern market town of Nabatiyeh early on Wednesday, causing many casualties.

According to preliminary reports, the raids on Nabatiyeh led to the total destruction of the municipality building, killing 10 people including the mayor, Ahmad Kahil, municipality employees and other civilians.

The Israeli army announced on Wednesday that it seized four combatants from the Iran-backed group, including a commander of Hezbollah’s elite al-Radwan unit.

It said the airstrikes on the southern suburb of Beirut, which came after several days of hiatus, targeted an underground weapons warehouse of Hezbollah.

Israeli Army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated on the X platform that "the Israeli army targeted a strategic weapons depot of Hezbollah that was stored in an underground warehouse in the southern suburb of Beirut, based on precise military intelligence."

The strikes occurred just minutes after an evacuation order issued by the Israeli army was posted on Adraee’s X account.

Meanwhile, fierce fighting erupted between the Israeli army and Hezbollah in the border towns of Ramya, Aita al-Shaab and al-Qouzah, amid intense artillery shelling on the region. Violent clashes were also reported in other areas, including Markaba and Rab al-Thalathin.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that one person was killed and 30 others were injured in successive Israeli strikes on the town of Qana late on Tuesday night. It also declared that the Israeli attack on the town of Srifa claimed the lives of five people.

For its part, Hezbollah announced in a series of statements that it targeted Safad, the settlement of Yiftah, and the artillery positions of the Israeli army in Dalton and Dishon with missiles.

Israeli media said that two Israelis were injured when five rockets from Lebanon crashed in Safad in northern Israel.

The Israeli army stated that 50 projectiles were launched from Lebanon towards northern Israel early on Wednesday. In a statement, the Israeli army indicated that "some of the projectiles were intercepted and others fell in the region."

It said that the army’s Brigade 98 continues its operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
