The 'Shiite Duo', Is There a Driver?

Will Hezbollah sign up to the agreement between Nabih Berri and Hassan Nasrallah following the latter's assassination? Berri mentioned that this agreement, coordinated with American envoy Amos Hochstein, is in favor of a ceasefire, the election of a president, and the application of UN Resolution 1701, while demarcating the borders with Israel.

Opposition sources question Hezbollah’s willingness to accept a ceasefire according to the formula agreed upon with Hochstein, at a time when Israel is stepping up its strikes across all Lebanese regions to track down Hezbollah leaders and target its arms depots.

The same sources reveal that Berri is unable to comment on the fate of the agreement and the nature of the next phase, as there is no longer a clear reference within Hezbollah. Thus, Berri finds himself solely responsible for the difficult period Lebanon is going through regarding a ceasefire and the separation of fronts, as demanded by the international community.
