Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that senior Hezbollah official Hashem Safieddine, who was expected to replace Hassan Nasrallah as Hezbollah’s new secretary-general, was likely killed in an airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs last week.

“Hezbollah is an organization without a leader. Nasrallah was eliminated, and his replacement was probably also killed. This has a dramatic effect on everything that happens. There is no one to make decisions, no one to act,” Gallant said during a visit to the Israeli Army’s Northern Command.

He also remarked that Hezbollah had been “battered and broken,” adding that the group “is a disintegrated organization, lacking significant command and firepower, with a fragmented leadership following the elimination of Hassan Nasrallah.” Earlier on Tuesday, the military reported that about 85 projectiles were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel.

“The actions we are taking are being observed throughout the Middle East. When the smoke in Lebanon clears, they will realize in Iran that they have lost their most valuable asset, which is Hezbollah,” he added.
