On Saturday, the Israeli army launched several relentless airstrikes throughout the day on the southern suburbs of Beirut, the Bekaa, and southern villages, following the official announcement of the assassination of Hezbollah's Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah.

In the afternoon, multiple airstrikes targeted the southern suburbs, with the last one considered an assassination attempt on a Hezbollah commander.

An airstrike targeted a building on the old Sidon Road in Mar Mikhael, resulting in injuries. It also targeted a passenger van on the Zahle highway, near the city's industrial roundabout.

The Israeli army targeted a house in the town of Blat in the Marjayoun district. Another strike hit the town of Deir Serian.

Around 1:15 PM, an airstrike targeted the area between the towns of Harouf and Jibchit in Nabatieh. The Israeli army targeted also Majdal Zun in the western sector, the towns of Yaroun and Maroun al-Ras, Bint Jbeil near Nabi Square, the Tapline area in Kafrman, Nabatieh, as well as multiple villages in the Tyre district, including Mansouri, Hanieh, Shuhabiya, and Qadmus al-Abbasiyah.

Israeli drones flew incessantly over multiple areas of Lebanon, notably Beirut and Metn.

Hezbollah, for its part, claimed several attacks. It launched a large salvo of rockets from southern Lebanon towards the western and upper Galilee, with the Iron Dome attempting to intercept some of them over the western sector. Moreover, it claimed to have targeted the Rosh Pina settlement, the Sa'ar settlement, the Sadah post, the Metula settlement. The Iran-backed group also targeted the Ma'alot settlement with a salvo of 50 rockets.

Meanwhile, Caretaker Education Minister Abbas Halabi announced the suspension of classes at the Lebanese University and private universities for one week, from Monday, September 30, 2024, until the evening of Sunday, October 6, 2024.

“Administrative and logistical work will continue, except in university centers where military events necessitate a complete halt, as instructed by the intstitution's management. Medical, pharmaceutical, health, and other centers whose nature and duties require ongoing activity will remain operational,” the statement added.

The Minister urged the Lebanese University and private higher education institutions to conduct surveys assessing the situation of displaced students. The goal is to develop appropriate plans to ensure these students can continue their education and to implement necessary measures in light of Lebanon’s current circumstances, particularly concerning their displacement and ability to access educational resources.

This includes the possibility of diversifying education methods to ensure the 2024-2025 academic year proceeds and concludes within its regular schedule and under the best possible circumstances, the statement reads.

Halabi emphasized that the suspension applies to all public and private schools, secondary schools, and vocational institutions.
