The United States destroyed a Houthi missile in Yemen, citing an imminent threat to its aircraft.
The United States has destroyed a Houthi surface-to-air missile in Yemen that posed an "imminent threat" to U.S. aircraft in the region, the U.S. Middle East Military Command (Centcom) announced on Saturday.
On Friday, US forces "conducted a self-defense strike against a surface-to-air missile (...) that was ready to be launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen", according to a message published by Centcom on the X social network.
On the same day, the Houthis launched an anti-ship missile which fell into the Red Sea without damaging any ships, according to the same source.
In response to the Houthi attacks, the United States, which supports Israel, set up a multinational maritime protection force in the Red Sea in December, and launched strikes against the Houthis in Yemen with the help of the United Kingdom.
