- Bou Habib: Lebanon Prepared to Fully Implement UNSCR 1701
Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdallah Bou Habib stated on Monday that Lebanon is prepared to “fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701.”
“This implies a return to the 1949 armistice line,” Bou Habib declared after meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the Grand Serail.
“It also entails Israel’s withdrawal from all Lebanese territories and the cessation of land, sea and air violations in Lebanon,” he concluded.
Discussions primarily focused on the situation in southern Lebanon and international diplomatic efforts to prevent the war in Gaza from spreading to Lebanon. This concern was particularly highlighted following European Union Foreign Minister Josep Borrell’s visit to Beirut during the weekend.
Bou Habib also reiterated these statements to the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, whom he met on Monday.
