MP Sethrida Geagea, member of the Lebanese Forces’ (LF) Strong Republic parliamentary bloc, pointed out on Tuesday that "the LF is willing to hold behind-the-scenes consultations, away from the limelight," to facilitate the election of a President of the Republic.

“This approach has proved its effectiveness," she said, in reference to the outcome of discreet deliberations that resulted in extending, by one year, the mandate of Army Commander-in-Chief, General Joseph Aoun.

Geagea, who chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Jabal el-Arz Foundation in Meerab on Tuesday morning, stressed that there is only one way out of the crisis in which Lebanon finds itself, and that is the election of a "sovereign,” free, and transparent president of the Republic, committed to implementing all reforms, respecting the Constitution, and restoring the prestige of the state.

In this context, Geagea called on Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to "continue on the path he had followed for the extension of General Aoun's mandate" in order to elect a president as soon as possible.
