Geagea Encourages Berri to Hold Side Talks, Not Dialogue
Lebanese Forces (LF) leader Samir Geagea reaffirmed on Thursday that his party will not take part in any national dialogue conference pertaining to the election of a president, but welcomed any other political initiative in that regard.

In doing so, Geagea anticipated a potential move by Speaker Nabih Berri to revive the Dialogue Conference, in reaction to information that has been circulating on the matter in Berri’s circles. The Speaker was encouraged by the consensus that led to extending the term of office of Army Commander in chief, General Joseph Aoun, last Friday, and wishes to apply it to the presidential election.

In a press release issued by his office on Thursday, the LF leader said his party is “fully prepared” should Berri aims to reach the election through “consensus” but not "through a (sterile) dialogue show.”

He noted that any “consensus” would only happen through “quiet side communication, similar to those that led to General Aoun remaining in his post, and not through dialogue show.”

“We've witnessed a lot of these so-called ‘dialogue tables’ in the last 15 years, none of which has ever borne any fruit,” he added.
