Reports conducted by Reuters and Agence France-Presse (AFP) regarding the killing and targeting of Lebanese journalist and photojournalist Issam Abdullah, and the injury of a group of journalists by Israeli shelling in Alma al-Shaab, southern Lebanon, on the 13th of October will expectedly be released within the next two days.
According to preliminary information, the Reuters report indicates that the journalists were targeted by two rockets launched from a Merkava tank "from within Israeli territory."
The Minister of Information, Ziad Makari announced on Tuesday that Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati "has been briefed on the investigations conducted by Reuters and AFP, and something clear will soon be issued on this matter."
Reuters, in its first statement after Abdullah's killing, refrained from indicating the responsible party, namely Israel, or even referring to the shelling. However, after a widespread wave of criticism, they modified the headline, be it vague still, even far from what other global media outlets such as CNN and the Associated Press have reported.
Reuters wrote in its new headline, "Killing of a Reuters TV cameraman in southern Lebanon by missile fired from Israel’s direction," focusing solely on the geographical direction from which the deadly missiles came.
In an attempt to mitigate criticism, Reuters published a detailed report about the work of their photographer Abdullah and the reports he had prepared and executed.
